Arbor Day – April 26, 2018

Plant a Tree

Arbor Day
April 26, 2018

During this Sesquicentennial Year, Arbor Day is special one for Brevard. It is one of 86 cities and towns in North Carolina and one of over 3,400 in the nation to receive this recognition. Brevard is receiving their 39th Tree City USA Growth Award.

The Tree City USA Growth Award was established in 1976 by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating Tree City USA communities. The Growth Award highlights innovative programs and projects as well as increased commitment of resources for urban forestry. The Tree City USA program in North Carolina is administered by the North Carolina Forest service.

The Mayor will kick-off the event at 1:30pm with a welcome and brief history in honor of our 150th celebrations and reading of the 2018 Arbor Day Proclamation. Then the North Carolina Forest Service will present the Tree City USA Award and presentation of the Tree City USA Banner. At the close of the event a brief planting of a tree and bulb ceremony will be held. Brevard will come together to “Plant for the Future” as we invite faculty and teachers from Pisgah Forest Elementary to assist with planting.

Arbor Day event will be held at the City of Brevard Sports Complex located on 324 Ecusta Road. See the map below
